I investigated into why there would still be trash in Three Mile Creek after the big Toulminville and Three Mile Creek cleanup. Vice President Councilman Fred Richardson Jr, boasted about all the people the City had working the event. When I ask Mr. Richardson how many City workers were out in a boat removing trash from Three Mile Creek, like City people do when they don't want to tell the truth, they decide to go silent. The councilman's silence pretty much told me the answer. The factual evidence came from a Fox 10 News report as shown above. Look at just how many people it takes to remove garbage from a City of Mobile Park shoreline because the City Parks won't keep their park clean. How many were out on the water in a boat removing trash from Three Mile Creek? ZERO. NADA. ZILCH. Zero is the Typical effort of the CIty of Mobile puts into removing trash from trash impaired waterways. That is why the creeks in Mobile like Three Mile Creek are never clean. Where does much of the trash in Mobile's polluted waterways come from? I went for a bike ride today after having been on an enjoyable vacation Florida. The bike ride brought me back to the realities in Mobile. UGLY! Butt Ugly! Same ol Same ol... Click on any image below to bring up a photo gallery view to see larger size images with commentary. Seeing all that trash seen on the bike ride put me in a sour mood. Then I pass by this guy using a loud speaker to broadcast his preaching across the grocery store parking lot. Hehhehheh. Some of you probably know where I'm going with this. So I went over and politely ask the guy what church he was with. "Don't need a church if you have Jesus." Then he stuck the bible in the air and started babbling Jesus crap to me. That did it. "Hey mister. You really believe in that book?" Guy obvious does. "Can you tell me the ten laws or commandments that are at the foundation of the Bible?" More babble. "Can you name the Ten Commandments?" He says no but he can flip to the page and read them from the Bible. The goober does not know the Ten Commandments yet he is going to hold up a bible in my face and preach about Jesus? Who creates evil? The Lord. The Bible says so in Isaiah 45:7 Then the Lord puts the evil in grocery store parking lots to spew babble in order to get your money in his golden plastic garbage can sitting on a golden plastic pedestal while he tells you basic biblical morals don't matter. Jeesh!

Views from the road. Trash. Trash. Trash. Welcome to Mobile - home of the Bay of Pigs.
Too bad State Conservation officials won't put up some signs that say, "Keep the fishing area free of litter or it will be closed." Wouldn't want to offend the pigs that pay for those fishing licenses.
Welcome tourists, to Battleship Parkway, also known as the Bay of Pigs. This is part four of five from today's Garrow's Bend kayak trip.
Garrow's Bend, once one of my favorite western Mobile Shore kayaking destinations, has become more and more of an illegal trash dump in the past decade. None of these Good Neighbor property owners along Garrow's Bend remove the trash from their shoreline which is right next to Mobile Bay, Those property owners include the State of Alabama, Board of Water and Sewer, Alabama State Docks, Mobile Airport Authority, and the United States Coast Guard - agencies who should be taking care of the health of our waterways - not using their property as their own personal garbage dump. Most of the trash originates from the City of Mobile storm water ditches in the area, including the interstate. These ditches have no trash filtering mechanisms in place. No one ever removes the storm water trash from these trash impaired waterways. Because Mobile continues to ignore trash once it reaches a tidally influenced State Waterway, the parade of trash continues to get denser and continues to work its way down toward Mobile Bay. At the City of Mobile's Arlington Park pier entrance, Mobile Group, Inc. and John Bell with the City of Mobile collaborated and put a "Know Your Storm Water" brochure in a tube for the park visitors to take and read. The waste of money storm water brochure says, "Storm water pollution could affect your watershed..." Could? Hey Mr. Public Services Director, Storm Water Pollution HAS affected Arlington Park. Ironically, the paper brochure is just another piece of disposable trash that will be tossed into the trash can (or on the ground), which could be blown into Mobile Bay adding to the storm water litter problem. How dense does litter have to be on City or State property before city or state workers remove it? Click on any photo below to see larger views with image commentary. Today's kayak trip was from Dog River Bridge up to Arlington Park, a little over 7 miles.
Good neighbors Mobile Airport Authority and University of South Alabama Foundation leave Mobile's storm water trash on their property helping to make Mobile UGLY. The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Mobile is only 2-3 miles north of where most of these photos were taken. How many people does the City of Mobile have devoted to removing trash from Mobile Bay? Zero. You can tell. As long as that number is Zero, expect Mobile Bay shorelne trash to get denser. No one taking care of the waterways in Mobile? Unbelievable. Enjoy all your crabs and shrimp and fish caught in polluted Mobile Bay. Click on any photo below to bring up the larger image viewer with comments. There are no decent grocery stores, no decent clothing stores, no movie theaters, no putt-putt golf, no touristy shops by the waterfront, no arts and crafts stores, no kayak and canoe rentals - not much of anything to currently draw people to the South Side. No doubt that lack of affordable insurance and crippling construction requirements for low lying areas plays a significant a role in keeping businesses away. The DIP peninsula is south of both the Interstate and the Railroad so getting insurance is tough. It'll be interesting to see what Airbus does when their facility is flooded or blows away in a hurricane.
We know there is no shopping lure on the South Side, but there is plenty of scenery to lure people to the area. What is missing is the wide sidewalk or multi-use trail to bring in the visitors to enjoy the scenery. If you provide multi-use trails, the people will use them. For those wanting to change the image of the DIP peninsula, Click on the Below images for some suggestions. Hey, it is a new sign at Arlington Park - the one on the top. It says,
"Prevent Storm Water Pollution. Keep the Rain Water Pure. No Dumping in the Storm Drains." Really? What a friggin joke. Talk about a waste of money... I suggest changing the wording on the above sign to be more effective: "Mobile has Decided to STOP its Storm Water Pollution. If Roadside Littering Continues, Mobile's City and County Sales taxes will each be raised by 2 cents in 2014 to fund the workforce needed to remove your daily litter. Some roads will have to be temporarily closed during the Daily Litter Removal for the safety of the workers. It is your choice. Stop the Littering or Pay." That will get the people's attention. That will cause a change of habits. Or That will pay for the workforce necessary to keep Mobile Clean. Hey you City Sign Maker authorizer - If you were serious about keeping Mobile's Rain Water Pure, you would: Require Automobile Inspections to make owners stop fluid leaks. Require First Flush Filtering Storm Water Inlets be installed to replace old non-filtering inlets. Require trash collectors to pick up loose trash from around their dumpsters. Require City trash collectors to pick up the trash they drop while picking up weekly garbage. Require the City to regularly remove trash from their trash impaired waterways. Require Businesses Property Owners to keep their property free of litter. Require Residential Property Owners to keep their property free of litter. Oops, we already have the last two rules in City and County Litter Codes. The City and County Litter Codes are just not very well enforced. Don't believe me? Take a walk behind just about any strip Mall or Shopping Center and you'll likely see loose trash scattered all over like in the bottom three photos. Prevent Storm Water Pollution? Get rid of the leaders who waste money on stupid ass signs. How may people does the City have removing trash from polluted waterways every day? Zero. Just look around. The City doesn't really care about clean storm water. Nuff Said. Above Photo: The City of Mobile's policy of ignoring trash once it reaches any of Mobile's waterways has consequences. Here is trash in Mobile Bay next to the Battleship USS Alabama readily visible from the deck of the ship. Lovely view for visitors eh? Welcome to Mobile - the Gulf Coast's Trash City, home to the Mobile Bay Pigs.
